Registration - Winter 2020/21

- Tryouts registration will close on the last day of tryouts.

- Players are required to tryout for a team and must live with in the St Bernard (or St James) parish boundaries.

- All players trying out for a team need to registered online for the travel offering prior to the tryout

- Players who are not selected for travel teams will be automatically registered for the intramural program (or a refund upon request)

- Multiple teams per grade (coach dependent)

- All players are required to check in 15min prior to the start of their session.

- Players need to attend at least 1 tryout date to be considered for a travel team, but both are dates recommended.

- Parents will not be permitted in the gym during tryouts.

 

League

All teams will play in the CYONS Travel League against other local parishes

- 4 & 5th Grade teams (10 games + playoffs) | 6th grade + (12 games + Playoffs)

 

Additionally, teams (coach dependent) will also have the to ability to play in the Island Garden Super-league

- 12 games played at Island Garden in West Hempstead (and other local gyms) against AAU travel team

Additional cost of $200 per play for IG league

Coaches

- We are in need of a few volunteer coaches / Assnt Coaches to run team. 

- For those who would like to volunteer to Coach, you MUST enroll yourself as a volunteer while also enrolling your player(s)

- Coaches who do not have players to enroll, click the Volunteer Button to register for your desired position.

FAQ


1. What is the difference between travel and intramural?
 + Travel Basketball
    - At least one team per grade, starting at 4th grade - two teams depending on players.
    - Plays in the CYOLI league - plays 10-12 regular season games, depending on grade.
    - All games are against other parish basketball teams.  Each grade league has an A, B & C division and teams are put in the best suited division for the team.
    - Some teams may also enter the Island Garden Super league that will consist of another 12 games against AAU teams. There's additional $190 travel fee.
    - There is a commitment level that is expected during the basketball season.
    - Rosters are 10-12 players and playing time is earned.
    - New players will be required to buy a uniform - cost is around $65.
    - Players that do not make a travel team will automatically be moved over to the intramural league.  Refunds can be issued upon request.
  + Intramural Basketball
      - All teams, except 3rd grade, are combo grades. 
      - Novice (3rd grade) & Junior (4th & 5th grade) - play 10 games each | Intermediate (6th & 7th grade) & Seniors (8th, 9th & 10th grade) - play 10 games each + playoffs.
     - Games are played against other St Bernard Intramural teams only.
     - Rosters are 10-12 players and playing time is split evenly.

2. When does travel start?
    - Practices will start shortly after teams are formed for travel.
    - Girls Travel church league - Oct 6th to Jan 5th (playoffs, if qualify run 1/10 - 2/8)
    - Boys Travel church league - Nov 15th to - Feb 3rd (playoffs, if qualify, run 2/27 - 3/22)
    - Island Garden Super league - team dependent - Nov 10th - March 31st (playoffs, if qualify run 4/1 - 4/30)

3. When does intramural Start:
  - Practices will start shortly after teams are formed for intramural. 
  - Boys Intramural start end of November. 
  - Girls Intramural start beginning of February. 

4. Locations/Days/Times of Games & Practices
  - All practices will be at St Bernard gym and/or local schools in the Levittown/Island Trees school districts.
  - Intramural games will be played at St Bernard gym and/or local schools in the Levittown/Island Trees school districts. 
  - Home Travel games will be played at St Bernard gym, away travel games will be played at other local parishes (within 20min drive).
  - Island Garden games will be played at Island Garden in West Hempstead, as well as St Bernard gym, JMF in Westbury and the Hub in Syosset. 
  - Games and practices can occur -  M-F 6pm-9pm, Sat 10am-9pm, Sun 12pm-9pm (all grade dependent)  Practices will be determined based on coaches availability after teams are formed. Games schedule is set by the leagues.  

5. What is the difference between Tryouts & Evaluations
   - All players will be required to register for either a Travel or Intramural League in order to attend either a tryout or evaluation.
   - In order to play on a travel team, you must attend a tryout and make one of the travel teams. We will try and create multiple teams per grade.
   - All intramural players must attend an evaluation.  Each player is evaluated by a panel of coaches and teams are then formed evenly.   All teams are combo grades, except 3rd grade.
  -  Tryouts & Evaluations dates are posted below.  If you are unable to attend you must email the program coordinator.
  - REGISTRATION FOR TRAVEL ends the day before the last tryout for that grade.
  - REGISTRATION FOR INTRAMURAL ends 1 week prior to the start of evaluations for that grade.
